You can never have enough tools. Ever. This is true for every American out there. We are truly a DIY society, which not only save us time; but the satisfaction of doing something yourself is never without reward, or scorn. Recently, I was forced to assemble and mount a couple new storage cabinets in the kitchen of our home, and to my utter delight, my trusty cordless drill decided to stop working which meant I had to go out and buy another one. First-world problems….

We’ve been using DeWalt tools for some time in our factory at ExcellentBlinds.com, as well as relying on them during installation. We’ve always found their tools to be well-made and reliable while allowing us to swap batteries rather easily when needed. So, when I saw this combo-kit at Home Depot for both a Drill and Impact driver, plus two batteries and a bag? I was hooked. A little skeptical but hooked. So, I gladly purchased the kit and hurried home to a ceremonial unboxing.

After charging the duo battery set, I mounted the batteries into the two drills and went to work on my project. Both products performed admirably, kicking out an awesome amount of torque for a straight 5 hrs without having to recharge. 20-Volts is more than enough to get most jobs around the house done, including some car maintenance as well. (For those of you less mechanically inclined, Voltage is a measure of power when it comes to power tools, and 20-Volts seems to be a good, sweet-spot between cost and usefulness).

The bag that comes along with the package is useful as well. DeWalt chose to have these manufactured in a heavy denier nylon blend, very much like a carpenter’s tool-bag. It’s spacious enough to hold the charger, two batteries and both tools, with room for beer and additional tools if that’s your thing.

Overall, the whole kit is worth the money spent and handy to have around house. Professionally, it’s the exact same tools we use in the warehouse and in the field. When considering tools for your home, it’s recommended you stick with a certain brand out of convenience. Most established brands will allow you to swap out batteries across their whole range of products, not only that, but most accessories, bits-and-pieces can be swapped out as well; making your at-home workshop cleaner, which makes it easier to find the right tool and accessory when you need it.

Special note I forgot to mention: These are small compared to full-sized hardware, and I think that’s the point. They’re going to be easy to store and easier to handle when working on smaller projects. I doubt they’ll be easier to loose unless neighbor and friends are involved. The batteries are full-sized however, and easily swap with other DeWalt tools.
